Mrs. Annie McKenzieBismarck High School
I was able to work with Mrs. Annie McKenzie as my professional mentor. She welcomed me into her classroom every Wednesday morning, and allowed me to pick her brain about the world of education and the life of a teacher. We discussed banned books, peer editing, teacher character skills, grading, and the pros and cons of extra credit. Together we created a writer's workshop lesson on dialect where students took a scene from Shakespeare's Julius Caesar and translated it into a modern dialect. |

Dr. Brenda TufteUniversity of Mary
I was able to work with Dr. Brenda Tufte as my faculty mentor. Every other Tuesday, we met over a cup of cappuccino and discussed the world of English education. Together we fine-tuned my resume, discussed project based learning, and explored unique ways to teach literature and writing to students. Dr. Tufte encouraged me to present at the North Dakota Association of Colleges for Teacher Education on techniques for teaching students to think critically. |
